Adding or removing vehicles

Fleets change. Here’s how to add vehicles, and what to do when one leaves.

You can add trackers at any time. Just ask us in writing — an email is fine.

  1. Contact us and tell us how many vehicles you’re adding, and what they are — make, model and year.
  2. We check the vehicles. Most vehicles with an OBD-II port work with the FMM003. What it can read from the vehicle, such as fuel level and odometer, depends on the make and model. See Vehicle compatibility.
  3. We send the trackers out. On an Inc. tracker plan they’re part of the monthly fee. On a Service only plan you buy them outright.
  4. Plug them in. Plug-in trackers are self-install — see Installing the FMM003. If you’d rather we fit them, we can install for a fee.
  5. Check the map. Each new vehicle should appear after a few minutes of driving.
  • On an Inc. tracker plan, each new tracker starts its own 36-month term from the day it’s activated. Your existing trackers keep their own terms.
  • Growing past 20 vehicles? Our published prices are for fleets of up to 20. Bigger fleets are quoted, so talk to us.

See Plans and contracts for the details.

Sold it, written it off, or the lease is up? Take the tracker out before the vehicle goes. On an Inc. tracker plan we own the tracker during its term, so don’t let one leave with the vehicle.

  1. Turn the ignition off, unplug the extension cable from the port, and take out the tracker with its cable. Keep them together somewhere safe.
  2. Decide what happens to the tracker. In most cases the best option is to move it to another vehicle you own or operate. See Moving a tracker to another vehicle.
  3. Tell us if you’re not moving it, so we can talk through your options.

Expect an unplug alert when you remove the tracker. That’s normal.

On an Inc. tracker plan, removing a tracker from a vehicle doesn’t end its term. If you cancel that tracker early, the rest of its term is payable — see Cancelling. Moving it to a replacement vehicle keeps it working for you, and moving doesn’t change its term.

If a vehicle is going to sit for weeks — off-season, waiting for parts — you don’t need to remove the tracker. It drops into a low-power sleep while the vehicle is parked. If the vehicle’s battery is small or old, talk to us first.

Fleet changes can be fiddly. Call us and we’ll work out the simplest way to handle it.
