Removing and refitting the SIM card
Every FMM003 has a Micro-SIM inside that connects it to the mobile network. You won’t normally need to touch it. Sometimes we’ll ask you to take it out and refit it, or swap it for a new one — for example, while we’re sorting out a connection problem.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You’ll need:
- a plastic pry tool (a guitar pick or plastic card also works) — not a screwdriver or knife, which can crack the case;
- somewhere clean and dry to work, such as a bench or the passenger seat;
- the new SIM, if we’ve sent you one.
The most important rule, from Teltonika: the tracker must be completely powered off before the SIM goes in or out. That means unplugged from the vehicle and its internal backup battery disconnected. Otherwise the SIM can be damaged, or the tracker won’t detect it.
Take the SIM out
Section titled “Take the SIM out”- Turn the vehicle’s ignition off.
- Unplug the tracker from its extension cable. Pull it straight out — don’t lever it sideways. You can leave the cable in the vehicle’s port.
- Take off the cover. Gently work the plastic pry tool in and release the cover from both sides.
- Disconnect the backup battery from the tracker’s board. Hold the plug, not the wires.
- Slide the Micro-SIM out of its slot.
Keep the SIM somewhere safe and dry while it’s out.
Put the SIM back in
Section titled “Put the SIM back in”- Check the battery is still disconnected.
- Slide the Micro-SIM into the slot with the cut-off corner pointing forward, into the slot. It should go in smoothly — don’t force it.
- Reconnect the backup battery. Sit the battery where it doesn’t press on or block anything else on the board.
- Clip the cover back on. Make sure it’s closed all the way round.
- With the ignition still off, plug the tracker back into its extension cable, push it fully home, and tie it back in place.
- Start the engine and drive for a few minutes. The lights should start blinking, and the vehicle should report on the map. See What the FMM003 lights mean.
- Let us know you’re done, so we can check the tracker from our end.
You’ll see an unplug alert while the tracker is out. That’s expected.
If it doesn’t come back online
Section titled “If it doesn’t come back online”Work through these, in order:
- Turn the ignition off, unplug the tracker, open the cover and disconnect the battery again.
- Check the SIM is the right way round (cut-off corner into the slot) and pushed fully in.
- Reconnect the battery, refit the cover, plug back in and drive again.
Still not reporting? Work through the tracker offline checklist, then contact us. Tell us what both lights are doing.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Keep it dry. The FMM003 isn’t waterproof, so don’t open it outside in the rain or with wet hands.
- Don’t take it apart any further. Only the cover comes off. Teltonika’s advice is not to disassemble the device beyond that.
- Damage isn’t covered. A tracker damaged while it’s open — for example by forcing the cover or the SIM — may need replacing. See Plans and contracts.
