Drivers
The platform tracks vehicles. Sometimes you also need to know who was driving. This page covers driver records, and what it takes to identify drivers automatically.
Driver records
Section titled “Driver records”You can keep records of your drivers on the platform. A driver record gives you one place for each person’s details, so your team isn’t hunting through spreadsheets.
To add a driver:
- Log in to the dashboard.
- Go to the area for managing drivers.
- Add a new driver and enter their details.
- Save, and check the driver appears in the list.
Only record what you actually need. Driver details are personal information, so keep them accurate and up to date, and remove drivers who have left. See the note on privacy below.
Identifying the driver automatically
Section titled “Identifying the driver automatically”The platform can record when an authorised or unauthorised driver tags in. This lets you see who drove which vehicle, and get an alert if someone who isn’t allowed to drive a vehicle tags in.
Without driver ID
Section titled “Without driver ID”If you don’t have driver-ID readers, you can still work out who was driving from your own records — rosters, job sheets or vehicle bookings — and match them against trips on the platform. See trips and history.
Giving each driver a regular vehicle, and naming vehicles so it’s obvious who usually drives them, makes this much easier.
Driver behaviour
Section titled “Driver behaviour”The platform also records driving events such as harsh braking, harsh acceleration, harsh cornering and excessive idling. These are tied to the vehicle. Linking them to a person relies on knowing who was driving. See driver behaviour.
Tell your drivers
Section titled “Tell your drivers”Tracking a vehicle that someone drives can reveal where that person is. Before you start, tell your drivers that vehicles are tracked, what is recorded and why. In the Northern Territory there are legal requirements around consent for tracking devices.
Read tracking your staff for general information on what to tell employees, and get advice for your own situation if you need it.
